The Tesla website for Germany states that all models manufactured since 1 May have the necessary on-board electrical equipment to be charged via a CCS adapter on CCS charging stations. All customers whose vehicles were produced after 1 May will also receive the adapter with their purchase. According to the company, all Model S and Model X vehicles produced before this date must be retrofitted, before they can be used at chargers with CCS plugs via an adapter.
In the process, the Californians equipped their local supercharger locations with a second cable. The following video in German shows what such a charging station looks like:.
As the video shows, the Model S and Model X still have the proprietary Type 2 connector now with an additional knob available on superchargers. So all Tesla vehicles can charge in their own charging network without an adapter. In fact, Tesla is creating CCS compatibility for the two premium models manufactured for Europe, in order to enable wider use of other chargers.
So far, this has been a bit of a shortcoming. The adapter allows a peak charging power of kW on second generation superchargers. It is not yet clear to what extent the adapters will also be available in the USA, where CCS also has more and more users.

Tesla CCS Combo Adapter For Model S/X In Europe To Cost €170
Winter Driving Tips. User login Username.Fred Lambert. Starting this month, Tesla is including a new CCS adapter with all new Model S and Model X orders in Europe so that owners can take advantage of the growing CCS fast-charging networks on the old continent, according to an update on their website.
Update: Tesla responded to this story saying that the update on their website was inaccurate. Tesla has always used its own proprietary charging connector in its vehicles to work with Supercharger network in North America. Update: The website was clearly updated to say that it is standard on new order:.
But Tesla now says that it was a mistake and it will not be standard. The company is most likely making it standard in Europe because it would give an extra benefit to Model 3 buyers over Model S and Model X buyers, but I would assume that they will make the adapter available everywhere at some point since it can also be useful to some North American owners too.

February 2, CCS is the most common charging standard for European fast charging. Third parties operate public pay-to-use charging networks across Europe.
The charge stations are equipped with a fixed cable, which can be directly plugged into Model 3. We asked Tesla to clarify the situation and we will get back to you if we get an answer.

Well finally. We have been asking for months about what kind of connector they plan to use for Model 3 in Europe and they are just now confirming it as they start unveiling the first display fleet in the market this week. There are a few interesting and surprising things about this announcement. While charging networks in Europe have been growing faster, we are starting to some decent deployment of fast-charging stations with the standard in North America too.
But either way, this is a good news. Model 3 owners in Europe will be able to take advantage of growing networks like Ionity, which is being financed by BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen, amongst others. It should also end any debate about charging standards at some point. With Model 3 quickly becoming the most popular electric vehicle in the world, its charging connector is going to have an important impact on the debate. Get interesting investment ideas by Fred Lambert.Any news at all on this? I still can't find anything other than the EU CCS adapter which isn't compatible with north american model 3. Still, they're not the primary DCFC in my area. Charging would be much more reliable if I could use them all, as most newer stations around me are only CCS or have far more CCS than chademo plugs. Mine has no plans to add any.
Thankfully my work has free V plugs, I know it could be worse. I agree. At the bare minimum, apartments should be required to offer v 20 amp connections. We have a Blink station at my building and management doesn't want me using the spots marked as "EV Charging Station" because they want to use it for their ICE cars.
I think it is unrealistic the require that existing apartments provide EV charging. The costs for installing it can vary widely and it is unlikely that non-EV owning tenants would be willing to accept the rent increases required to pay for it.
Now new apartment construction is a completely different matter. This should be added to the national building code. In addition there should be some form of tax credit for adding charging infrastructure to existing apartments. But don't expect to see that with the existing administration. The reason apartment buildings in my neck of the woods refuse to add V plugs is they claim it would be impossible to monitor and bill the right amount of electricity to the rightful users.
So, I've had solar panels on the roof since Originally, getting the info on how much energy was being created was by reading the cumulative energy values on the small LCD screens on the solar inverters.
And, yeah, I called and checked with the manufacturer on that. So, the NJ Public Utilities Commission which, among other things, regulates electric meters, got involved, since money was changing hands. How to select pressure gauge range for hydrotest
So, a requirement came out that all of us people with older solar systems were going to have to knock it off with the inverter readings and put in a for-real electric meter for the solar panel energy. Being of a EE persuasion and seeking to do this on the cheap I spent a couple of weeks reading PUC requirements, various standards documents, and lots and lots of manufacturer data sheets, glommed off the New York PUC web site.
Eventually ended up ordering this rectangular box not one of the glass ones people usually see with a couple of center-tapped transformers, read the installation manual, got some PVC pipe from Home Depot, and installed the thing.
And paid for and got the local boro electrical inspector to come down and sign off on the work, in case any of you have any questions on the subject. Point is: A meter is a really easy install. And this one. It comes with an RS interface and published commands.
I've been playing around with the idea of hooking up an Arduino to the box, the better to monitor the energy generation. But it's easy to see that it would be fairly trivial, I guess, to add some kind of coin-counting mechanism, vending machine style, to such a system. Probably underestimating the cost and armoring of the money-handling mechanism. But, sheesh, vending machine manufacturers must have had this figured for cheaps for ages. Instead, we get the likes of Chargepoint and Electrify America charging three or four times as much as Tesla does, as if it's super high technology.
Waiting to try one of the kW CCS chargers to see if Model 3 can really charge at kW, also what the drop off rate is for the kW rate.Tesla has finally made it possible for Model 3 owners to use DC fast chargers that aren't part of its own Supercharger network. Tesla Superchargers are widely distributed, so Model 3 pilots rarely need access to third-party chargers. That switch has led to hopes that Musk might one day open up its exclusive Supercharger network to other EV manufacturers.
The third-party DC chargers are limited to 50kW compared to kW max for a Supercharger, but if you happen to be in the sticks without a Supercharger in sight, it's percent better than nothing. As Tesla points out, except for rare cases, DC chargers usually require a subscription and are generally more costly than Superchargers. So, if you plan to use CHAdeMO with firms like Electrify America or ChargePointyou'll likely need to sign up and, if possible, confirm everything works before you leave.

As we previously reported, Tesla has always used its own proprietary charging connector in its vehicles to work with the Supercharger network in North America.
This week, Tesla updated its European Supercharger support page to confirm that all Model S and Model X vehicles produced after May 1, are compatible with the new adapter:. For existing Tesla owners, the automaker says that it will offer retrofits for older Model S and Model X to work with the new adapter starting on June 1. We contacted Tesla about the update and we asked if it will be also available in other markets, like in North America, where CCS charging station networks are also growing.
The good news is that it is significantly cheaper than the CHAdeMO adapter — for new buyers at least. It depends on what Tesla does with its Supercharger network in Europe. If Tesla ends up building most its new Supercharger stations with CCS, owners will absolutely need to get the adapter and at that point, it should be standard. But after we reported on the update, Tesla reached out to say that it was a mistake and they have removed the page and all mentions of the adapter being standard.
